Musée de Bastia, a beautiful museum on the French island of Corsica, has been presenting their art collection inside Solits wall displays for 5 years now. Our plinths and plinth display cases can now also be admired here. How do we transport our products to the island and what Museum Bastia thinks of their collaboration with Solits are the two topics of this blog.
Museum Bastia is very popular with tourists. That is not surprising, because this former palace of the Governors of Genoa with its beautifully renovated rooms offers fascinating collections which allow the visitors to take a glimpse of the local folk art and traditions. You will also find (temporary) exhibitions about Corsica here. The surroundings are just as beautiful: the garden of the museum offers a breathtaking view of the sea and the old port.
Visit to Corsica
Our Sales Manager Mirjam traveled to Corsica for the first time in 2018. “The first wall displays had just arrived, they were removed from pallets and partially mounted,” says Mirjam. “That was so cool to see. The annual Festial Creazione was also under way then, so it was nicely busy and vibrant in and around the museum.” Solits owners Diego and Brenda visited the island in 2022. They consider it an honor to be part of this wonderful museum.
First wall displays
Fun fact is that Museum Bastia was Solits' first customer who asked for wall displays. Mirjam: “After the first production, we were both so enthusiastic about this product that Solits included wall displays into its basic range as a standard product. The product ended up being a great success, because our wall dipslay cases hang in various museums, galleries and department stores in the Netherlands and abroad now.”
Plinths and display cases
It did not end with the initial order of the wall displays for Museum Bastia. “In 2019, a year after the delivery of the wall display cases, the museum also needed large plinths with plexiglass display cases mounted on top. They also approached us for this. Their art has now been presented on our plinths for four years.”
Delivered personally
Transporting products abroad is a always challenging job. “To make sure that the wall displays, plinths and display cases arrive at Museum Bastia without damage, our own chauffeur drove all the way to the South of France, then boarded the ferry on to Corsica to deliver the products personally,” says Mirjam.
The collaboration
How did Museum Bastia experience the collaboration with Solits? Ariane Jurquet, purchasing manager at the museum, says: “The display cases were made for the museum's permanent exhibition. They are intended for plaster and polychrome wooden statues and for a collection of items dating back to the French Revolution and the Empire. We are very satisfied with our cooperation with Solits. The company has listened carefully to our wishes and the display cases meet our expectations.”
