It is a piece of solid oak wood, so the weight you can put on it is virtually unlimited.
We have listed all the information for you in this document.
The oak plinth is sanded with a sander to grain 120. The plinth is then not treated with any oil or lacquer. You get the natural oak wood look when you order this product.
Yes, we can treat the plinth for you if you pay extra. You also buy a can of oil to treat the plinth yourself.
The oak we use for making this product has air dried for approx. 1 year. It is possible that the oak plinth is still slightly damp inside. In order for the wood to dry properly, it needs ventilation. Screw-on plastic feet are mounted on the underside of all of our oak plinths to ensure sufficient ventilation. You can also add felt pads to your object to create some distance between the plinth and the object you display on top. If mold has already appeared, simply sand it off with sandpaper.
If you place an untreated oak plinth outside, the plinth will eventually turn grey. To maintain the golden brown colour we recommend applying a layer of clear varnish every year, the same way as you do with wooden garden furniture.
We can easily make holes in a plinth, regardless of the material chosen. We need to receive the exact measurements and the position of the holes from you. Different prices apply per plinth because different techniques are required for each material. Ask us about the possibilities when ordering your plinth.
We do not provide installation services per se. We can help by drilling holes in the surface of the plinth or installing a metallic rod for mounting a sculpture, but the actual mounting would need to be done by you or a third party.
We often get this question! A solid oak plinth is much heavier than a (hollow) oak veneer plinth. The advantage of a heavy plinth is that it stands firmly and can carry a lot more weight. The advantage of a plinth made of plate material (the oak veneer plinth) is that it is lighter in weight and therefore easier to move.
The appearance is also different. The solid oak plinth has a more natural, robust appearance. The wood of the solid oak plinth is still alive and in motion; natural cracks are still being formed. The oak veneer plinth does have the same natural wooden pattern as solid oak. Since it is made of sheet material, there are no cracks or color differences though.
Another pronounced difference is that a solid oak plinth is often chosen to stand outdoors, for example, to display an outdoor pot or a garden statue. Oak veneer plinth is only suitable for indoor use.
